CHILDREN’S ART WEEK

SATURDAY 13TH TO SUNDAY 21ST JUNE

Ricky Martin, AKA CBBC’s Art Ninja is the latest ambassador for Children’s Art Week with this UK-wide celebration of creativity for children and families!

Speaking about why he wanted to be involved Ricky said: “I had a lot of trouble with reading and writing at school, but found art as a great way to be understood and express myself. Children’s Art week is about releasing the creative child in all of us. There are so many great venues (big and small) involved in creating a platform this brilliant event. Together we can empower kids with art and help them get their ninja on!”

Children’s Art Week is offering families an eclectic range of events including puppet making in Falkirk, printmaking in Portsmouth, knitting workshops in Omagh and model-bridge making in Bristol!

Other highlights throughout the week include the chance to help the Royal Airforce Museum recreate the camouflage pattern of one of the museum’s most colourful aeroplanes, the Fokker DVII biplane, by block printing coloured shapes to create its fabric wing or working alongside established artists at the Royal Mews, Buckingham Palace.

Speaking about Children’s Art Week, Jane Sillis, director of engage, coordinators of the initiative said:  “Each Children’s Art Week event large or small helps to celebrate the arts in the UK and to encourage children, young people, families and teachers to engage with the visual arts.” This sentiment is backed by all of Children’s Art Week Ambassadors who include; illustrator, Nick Sharratt; Camila Batmanghelidjh, director of Kid’s Company; Sandy Nairne, Chair of the Clore Leadership Programme and former director of the National Portrait Gallery and well known arts champion Loyd Grossman OBE.
